Elaine Thompson, president and chief executive officer of Lakeland Regional Medical Center Health Systems, recently was named to the Becker's Hospital Review "100 Non-Profit Hospital, Health System CEOs to Know." Thompson joined Lakeland Regional in September 2010.

Jeanne Anastasi was announced Friday as the South Central Florida Council's "Ombudsman of the Year." This is the council serving Polk, Highland, and Hardee counties. Florida's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program made the announcement. Anastasi, who has a background in social work, is in her third year on the local council. Ombudsmen volunteers receive this award by going above and beyond the call of duty in advocating for long-term care facility residents.

These seven orthopedic surgeons have a partnership with Bartow Regional Medical Center to provide orthopedic coverage 24/7 for BRMC emergency department patients: Dr. David Arango, Royal Palm Orthopedics; Dr. Brian Jurbala, Highland Center for Orthopaedics; Dr. Paul M. Morin, Bond Clinic; Dr. Stuart Patterson, Central Florida Orthopaedic Surgery Associates; and Dr. J.C. Alvarez, Dr. Stephen F. Beissinger, Dr. Maury L. Fisher and Dr. Ponnavolu D. Reddy, all of Florida Joint and Spine Institute. Other orthopedic surgeons practicing at BRMC include Dr. F. Mark Goodwin, Dr. Chukwuka Okafor and Dr. Stanley Zemankiewicz.

Samira K. Beckwith has been named chairwoman of the National Hospice Foundation Board of Trustees. Beckwith is president and chief executive officer of Hope HealthCare Services, a multi-county organization that has an office in Lakeland.
